πŸ“ S2 Homework 1 Guide (warm-up Β· not submitted Β· post a Role to heropedia.org)

S2 Homework 1 (Warm-up Β· Not Submitted) β€” You Now Have a Place in the AI World

This is the student walkthrough for the S2 warm-up homework.

HW1 is not submitted β€” do NOT paste it into the siliconroshi.ai homework page. You'll post the hero Role you wrote to heropedia.org. That's the Hero Hall we're building together β€” you contribute one, others use it; others contribute one, you use it.

No KPI, no deadline. But the moment you leave your first Role on heropedia, you have a place in the AI world.

What you're doing (one sentence)

Pick 2–3 heroes you admire β†’ have the LLM write them as Roles using the "Phenomenon / Essence / Philosophy" three-layer dive β†’ post to https://heropedia.org.

Before you start

One account: heropedia.org requires login to post a Role. Supported:

  • πŸ“§ Email + 6-digit OTP code (simplest, recommended)
  • πŸ”— GitHub login
  • πŸ”— Google login

No content prep required β€” the steps below take you hand-in-hand to your first Role.

Step 1 Β· Pick your hero

Think of 2–3 people you admire. Rules:

  • Specific and real: Paul Graham > "a startup mentor"
  • Verifiable online: Linus Torvalds > "some senior from my college"
  • Mix and match freely: historical figures (Confucius), modern masters (Buffett), industry legends (Dieter Rams) β€” all fine

βš”οΈ Don't pick the 4 heroes we covered in class (PG / Thiel / Marc / Linus) β€” those are already in the course materials. Pick someone from your own domain, or the person who lives in your own heart.

Step 2 Β· Have the LLM write the Role for you

βš”οΈ You don't have to write the three layers yourself β€” let AI do it. That's the S2 spirit: summon a hero, leverage them, become capable.

Open ChatGPT (https://chatgpt.com) or Claude (https://claude.ai) in a fresh chat, and send one message with this template (replace the bracketed parts):

Please write a hero Role prompt I'll post to heropedia.org.

Hero: [full name of your hero, e.g. Dieter Rams]
Role: [what role they play, e.g. Product Critic]
Industry: [Product / Engineering / Design / Marketing / Sales /
           Writing / Finance / Business / HR / Founder / Support]

Write it using the "Phenomenon β†’ Essence β†’ Philosophy" three-layer
dive structure. Specifically:
1. Open with "You are [Hero] acting as a [Role]."
2. Phenomenon layer: 2-3 sentences on who they are, what specific
admirable things they did (real years, works, achievements)
3. Essence layer: 2-3 sentences on **how they think** β€” their unique
   way of seeing the world
4. Philosophy layer: 1-2 sentences of their "iron law" β€” ideally
   quote them directly
5. Rules: 3-5 concrete rules β€” how they answer questions (e.g. "ask
clarifying questions first", "refuse motivational fluff")
6. Examples: 1-2 short examples that simulate their thinking in some
   scenario

Write the whole thing in English (heropedia.org is an English
community), 200-400 words. Skip pleasantries, give me the prompt
directly.

Hit enter. AI hands you a complete Role Definition.

Check whether this Role is good enough

Before pasting into heropedia, read it once yourself. A good Role should let you see these signals:

  • βœ… Specificity: real years, real works, real events (not "a distinguished designer")
  • βœ… Unique perspective: you can see how they think, not just who they are
  • βœ… Iron law: you can see one sentence / one principle they'd repeat
  • βœ… Examples: at least one that simulates their style

If any one is missing, push back to AI:

This Role is thin on [missing item, e.g. "no Examples"]. Please add
[1-2 short examples in their typical scenarios / one iron law they'd
say / ...].

Keep going until all four signals are in.

Example (the target shape AI will produce)

If your hero is Dieter Rams, AI will give you something like:

You are Dieter Rams acting as a Product Critic.

You spent 60 years designing consumer products at Braun (1961–1995) β€”
from the SK4 record player to the T1000 radio, hundreds of objects
that shaped how we see "well-designed." Apple's iPhone design
language descends directly from your work.

You see the world through one obsessive lens: "less, but better."
Every product you touch, you ask: does this button need to exist?
Does this line need to exist? Subtraction is never the goal β€”
**every element that remains must earn its place.**

Your iron law: "Good design is as little design as possible."
Design is not decoration; design is deciding what doesn't need
to exist.

Rules:
1. Ask one clarifying question before you judge β€” what is this for,
   and who uses it?
2. For every flaw, point at the specific element to remove first.
3. Never use words like "maybe," "might," "somewhat." You say yes or no.
4. If the product is visually loud, say so. Silence is a feature.

Examples:
- User: "Is this coffee maker well-designed?"
You: "Three buttons instead of one. The LED strip serves no
function. Remove both, and you have a Braun."
- User: "How should I design this dashboard?"
You: "Start by removing every widget. Add back only the three
metrics a user cannot run the business without."

βš”οΈ You're not copying homework β€” you're experiencing leverage: you have a fuzzy impression of a hero in your head, and AI turns it into a Role Prompt you can run immediately. That IS the meaning of S2's Golden Hoop 2 Β· Leverage.

Step 3 Β· Log into heropedia.org

  1. Open https://heropedia.org
  2. Click Submit at the top (upper-right of the hero list) β†’ login page
  3. Enter your email β†’ click "Send code"
  4. Check your inbox β†’ copy the 6-digit code β†’ paste β†’ login

(Or use the GitHub / Google buttons for one-click login.)

Step 4 Β· Fill in the submission form

After login you'll be sent back to the submission page. There are 5 fields:

Field What to enter
Hero Name Full name β€” e.g. Dieter Rams
Role Title What role they play β€” e.g. Product Critic (pick from the dropdown of existing ones, or type to create new)
Profession Pick the closest industry β€” e.g. Product
Author Your name (student name or WeChat handle) β€” others see this when browsing your hero
Role Definition Paste the whole block you wrote in Step 2 (from "You are …" to the end)

βš”οΈ Role Title choice matters:

  • Pick existing: if your hero could play an already-existing role (e.g. "Code Reviewer", "Investment Analyst"), pick that from the dropdown β€” so others browsing can see multiple heroes under the same role giving different takes.
  • Create new: if the role you want doesn't exist yet, type it in to create it β€” you become the first contributor for that role.

Step 5 Β· Submit

Click Submit β†’ the page redirects to /profession/role-slug/hero-slug, which is your hero's page. Refresh it β€” you now have a place on heropedia.

Step 6 Β· Repeat 1–2 more times

S2 HW1 suggests posting 2–3 heroes. Role Titles can all be different (one Product Critic, one Code Reviewer, one Writing Mentor), or they can all be the same Role (e.g. under one "Investment Analyst" role, you contribute Buffett + Munger + Peter Lynch).

The second pattern is most valuable β€” because multiple heroes side by side under the same role is heropedia.org's most core experience.

Signs you're done

  • heropedia.org has at least 2 Roles you wrote (AI-generated counts)
  • Each Role contains: Phenomenon (specific facts) + Essence (unique way of thinking) + Philosophy (iron law) + Examples
  • Author field has your real student name (so we can see you came by)

After you're done

Share with classmates

Every hero on heropedia has its own URL:

https://heropedia.org/[profession]/[role-slug]/[hero-slug]

Paste it in the student WeChat group and let everyone try your Role. This is the seed of People's AI β€” you contribute one, others use it, they optimize it, you benefit.

Try your own hero yourself

Open a fresh chat in ChatGPT or Claude, and use the method from the HW2 walkthrough (one message: Role prompt + bridging line + your question) to chat with your own hero. You'll find that "writing a hero" and "using a hero" are two completely different exercises β€” doing both is when you really learn it.

Why this homework doesn't require submission

βš”οΈ Because it's not for me to grade β€” it's for you.

The moment you post a Role to heropedia.org, you're doing three things:

  1. Practicing the S2 Four-Layer skeleton β€” the Role you wrote is a microcosm of Role Β· Rules Β· Constraints Β· Examples
  2. Planting a seed on heropedia.org β€” every future user of this hero counts as your contribution
  3. Leaving a name in the AI world β€” your Author field is your signature; heropedia.org remembers

"Notice the word I use β€” you're not turning in homework, you're helping us fill this Hero Hall. When other students come looking for a hero to use, they'll see the one YOU wrote."
